Sleep

Definition

Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhibited sensory activity, reduced muscle activity and inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles.

Analogy

Think of sleep like your phone's nightly recharge. Just as your phone needs to be plugged in to restore its battery, your body needs sleep to restore energy, consolidate memories, repair tissues, etc.
