Value

Definition

Value refers to the lightness or darkness of a color. It is an important element in art as it helps create depth, form, and contrast.

Analogy

Think of value like a dimmer switch on a lightbulb. When you turn the switch up, the room gets brighter (lighter values), and when you turn it down, the room gets darker (darker values). Just like how different values can change the mood and atmosphere in a room, they can also affect the mood and impact of an artwork.
