Proxy Wars

Definition

Proxy wars are conflicts where major powers instigate or aid smaller groups or nations to fight on their behalf, rather than engaging directly.

Analogy

Think of a proxy war like two puppet masters controlling their puppets. The puppet masters (major powers) don't fight each other directly but use their puppets (smaller groups or nations) to carry out the conflict.
