The Algerian War of Independence was a conflict from 1954 to 1962 between France and the National Liberation Front (FLN) that resulted in Algeria gaining its independence from French colonial rule.
Think of the Algerian War of Independence as a long, grueling football match. Algeria is the underdog team fighting against the reigning champion, France. After many years (or quarters), Algeria finally scores enough points to win their freedom, or in this case, their independence.
Colonialism: This refers to the practice by which a powerful country directly controls less powerful countries and uses their resources to increase its own power and wealth.
Decolonization: This is the process by which colonies become independent of the colonizing country. It's like when a teenager grows up and moves out of their parents' house to live on their own.
National Liberation Front (FLN): This was an Algerian socialist political party that led the struggle for national liberation against French colonial rule.
