In psychology, judging refers to the cognitive process of forming an opinion or evaluation by discerning and comparing. It's one of the four dimensions of personality identified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
Think of judging like being a referee in a football game. The referee observes the players' actions, compares them with the rules of the game, and makes decisions based on their observations.
Cognitive Process: This is a term referring to all mental activities associated with thinking, knowing, remembering, and communicating.
Evaluation: This is a systematic determination of a subject's merit, worth and significance using criteria governed by a set of standards.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): A widely-used personality inventory that identifies individuals' personality types along four dimensions - extraversion/introversion, sensing/intuition, thinking/feeling, judging/perceiving.
