In psychology terms, functions refer to what different parts of our brains do or control in our bodies - from basic survival instincts to complex cognitive processes.
Imagine your brain as an orchestra conductor. Each instrument plays a unique role in creating music just like each part of your brain has a specific function that contributes to your overall behavior and cognition.
Cognitive Functioning: These are mental processes that help us gather knowledge and comprehend it. They include reasoning ability, memory retention, attention span etc.
Motor Functioning: These are controlled by various structures in our nervous system which coordinate together to perform all types of movements.
Sensory Functioning: These involve five senses (sight, hearing, smell taste touch) which provide data for perception- our conscious awareness of world around us based on sensory input from body's receptors.
