Brain Structure

Definition

The brain structure refers to the physical and functional organization of the brain, including its different parts and how they interact.

Analogy

Think of the brain structure like a complex city. Each part of the city (or brain) has a specific function - for example, the residential area is where people live (like how the hippocampus stores memories), while the business district is where work gets done (like how the frontal lobe controls decision-making and problem-solving).

Related terms

Cerebrum: This is the largest part of your brain, responsible for higher functions like thinking, learning, consciousness, and emotions.

Brainstem: This acts as a relay center connecting the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord. It performs many automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, body temperature, wake and sleep cycles.

Limbic System: This system contains structures important for memory processing and emotional responses.
