Definition

Claims are assertions made by a country or entity regarding its right to exercise authority or control over a particular territory. These claims may be based on historical, cultural, political, or legal justifications.

Analogy

Imagine two people arguing over who gets to sit in an empty chair. Both claim that they have the rights to it because they believe they deserve it for different reasons. The argument revolves around each person's assertion of their entitlement.
