Think of plantations as a factory farm. Just like a factory produces goods on a large scale using machines, plantations produced crops on a large scale using human labor.
Slavery: The state of being under the control of someone where a person is bought and sold as property.
Cash Crops: Crops that are grown for sale to return a profit. They are typically purchased by parties separate from a farm.
Colonialism: The policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically.
