Definition

Phase change refers to any transformation or transition that occurs between different states of matter, such as from solid to liquid, liquid to gas, etc.

Analogy

Imagine phase changes like transforming between different outfits. Just like changing from jeans to shorts or vice versa involves different physical states, phase changes involve transitioning between different states of matter.
