Axis

Definition

An imaginary line that serves as a reference point for rotation or reflection in mathematics, particularly in solid geometry and calculus.

Think of an axis as the pole that holds up a merry-go-round. It helps determine how objects move and rotate around it.

X-axis: The horizontal number line on a coordinate plane.

Y-axis: The vertical number line on a coordinate plane.

Z-axis: The third dimension added to the X and Y axes, forming Cartesian coordinates in three-dimensional space.
