Definition

The Alamo was a mission in San Antonio, Texas, that was the site of a famous battle during the Texas Revolution in 1836 where Texan defenders were overrun by Mexican forces.

Analogy

Think of The Alamo as your school's home field where an important game took place. Despite losing this particular match (the Texans), it rallied support and became a symbol for their eventual championship win (independence).
