Imperialism: This is when one country extends its influence over another through force or manipulation. Like being the school bully who uses their strength or cunningness to control others' actions.
Colonization: The act by which a country sends settlers into another area in order to establish control. Like planting seeds in an empty garden plot so that they grow into plants under your care.
Manifest Destiny: A 19th-century doctrine that the United States had the right and duty to expand throughout the North American continent. It's like believing you're destined to be the star player on your school's basketball team, so you work hard and push for it.
