Quebec

Definition

Quebec is a province located in eastern Canada. It was one of the first parts of North America to be explored and settled by Europeans. In AP US History context, it's significant because it was established by France as part its New France colony.

Analogy

Imagine if you built a treehouse on an unclaimed tree in your neighborhood park - that's kind-of like what France did when they established Quebec. They found this "unclaimed" land (though it was actually inhabited by Native Americans) and set up their own community there.
