Perestroika

Definition

Perestroika was another policy introduced by Mikhail Gorbachev that aimed at restructuring the economic system of the Soviet Union. It involved reforms to allow more private ownership and capitalist business practices within the communist system.

Analogy

Imagine you're playing an old video game that's full of glitches. Instead of throwing away the whole game console (which would be like overthrowing your entire government), you decide to update it with patches and fixes - this is what Perestroika did for Russia's economy.
