Definition

Multilateralism refers to multiple countries working in concert on a given issue. It involves coordinating national policies in groups so as to manage shared problems at the international level.

Analogy

Multilateralism is like being part of a team sport, such as basketball. Each player (country) has their role but they need to work together towards achieving common goals (solving global issues).
