Lockout

Definition

A lockout is a work stoppage initiated by an employer during a labor dispute. It's when the management closes the workplace to prevent employees from working, usually in response to strikes or other labor unrest.

Analogy

Think of a lockout like a school principal locking the doors to prevent students from entering because they've been protesting about cafeteria food. The principal uses this tactic until the students agree to stop their protest and comply with the rules.
