Definition

Kosovo is a partially recognized state and disputed territory in Southeast Europe that declared independence from Serbia in 2008, following a long history of conflict.

Analogy

Imagine if one team within your school decided they wanted to form their own separate club because they felt their interests weren't being represented fairly. That's similar to what happened with Kosovo - it declared independence from Serbia due to longstanding tensions and conflicts.
