Plantation System: This was a system where large farms in the southern states were worked by slaves who lived on them. The main crop produced was cotton.
Cotton Gin: A machine invented by Eli Whitney that quickly and easily separates cotton fibers from their seeds, enabling much greater productivity than manual cotton separation.
Industrial Revolution: A period of major industrialization that took place during the late 1700s and early 1800s. It began in Great Britain and soon spread throughout other parts of Europe and North America.
