An ironclad warship is a steam-propelled warship in the mid-19th century that was protected by iron or steel armor plates.
Think of an ironclad warship as a smartphone with a protective case. Just like how the case protects your phone from damage, the iron or steel armor on these ships protected them from enemy fire during battles.
