Iran-Contra Affair

Definition

A political scandal during Ronald Reagan's second term as President where senior officials secretly facilitated arms sales to Iran (which was under an arms embargo) with hopes to fund Contras in Nicaragua.

Analogy

Imagine if a group of students secretly sold test answers (which is against school rules) to fund their friend's campaign for student council. That's similar to the Iran-Contra Affair - breaking rules and using the proceeds for another cause.
