The impact of Reconstruction refers to the immediate and lasting effects following the Civil War, during which attempts were made to redress inequalities of slavery and its political, social, and economic legacy.
Sharecropping: A system where landowners allowed tenants to use their land in exchange for a share of crops produced on it. This often led former slaves into cycle of debt and poverty.
Freedmen's Bureau: An agency established by Congress in 1865 to help former black slaves and poor whites in the South recover after Civil War by providing food, housing, medical aid, schooling etc.
Ku Klux Klan (KKK): Founded during Reconstruction era; this white supremacist group used violence against black people in Southern states with aim to suppress their newly acquired rights.
