Definition

The Great Salt Lake is a large saltwater lake in northern Utah, United States. It's the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most saline bodies of water in the world.

Imagine the Great Salt Lake as a giant salt shaker. Just like your table salt dissolves into soup or stew, minerals from ancient seas, rivers, and groundwater dissolved into this lake, making it incredibly salty.
