General John J. Pershing was a senior United States Army officer who served as commander of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) on the Western Front in World War I.

Analogy

Think of General Pershing as the coach of a football team, but instead of leading athletes, he's leading soldiers. Just like a coach has to strategize and make decisions that will lead his team to victory, so too did Pershing have to plan and execute strategies that would help the U.S. succeed in World War I.
