Definition

Food safety refers to handling, preparing, and storing food in a way to best reduce the risk of individuals becoming sick from foodborne illnesses.

Analogy

Think about food safety like a referee in a football game. Just as referees enforce rules to keep players safe on the field, food safety guidelines are enforced to keep consumers safe from harmful bacteria or diseases that could be present in our food.
