Emancipation Proclamation

Definition

An executive order issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863 during American Civil War declaring that all enslaved people in Confederate territory were to be set free.

Analogy

Imagine you're playing a game where one team has an unfair advantage because they have more players. The Emancipation Proclamation is like changing the rules mid-game so that some players switch sides - this weakened one team (the Confederacy) and strengthened another (the Union).
