Definition

An election is a process in which individuals vote to select someone for a particular office or position of power. It is a democratic way for the public to have a voice in choosing their leaders.

Analogy

Imagine an election as a popularity contest in high school, where students vote for their favorite candidate to become the class president. The candidate who receives the most votes wins and becomes the leader of the class.
