Definition
Large retail establishments that sell a wide variety of goods. They are usually divided into departments such as clothing, home goods, cosmetics, and electronics.
Analogy
Think of department stores like a shopping mall all under one roof. Just like how you can go to different stores in a mall for different items, you can go to different departments in a department store for specific types of products.
