The CPI was an independent agency of the U.S government created during World War I to influence public opinion regarding American participation in the war.
The CPI was kind of like a PR firm for America during WWI. Its job was similar to how social media influencers promote certain products or ideas today - except instead of promoting beauty products or fashion trends, they were promoting patriotism and support for war efforts.
George Creel: He was a journalist appointed by President Wilson as head of CPI who led its efforts in rallying public support through various forms of media.
War Bonds: These are debt securities issued by a government to finance military operations during times of war. It's like lending money to your friend so they can start a lemonade stand, but in this case, you're lending money to the government for war efforts.
Sedition Act of 1918: This was an act that extended the Espionage Act of 1917 and covered a broader range of offenses, notably speech and expression that cast the government or war effort in a negative light.
