Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)

Definition

The CCC was a voluntary public work relief program that ran from 1933-1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18–25 during the Great Depression. It provided jobs related to natural conservation such as reforestation, park maintenance etc.

Analogy

Imagine if your neighborhood had lots of unemployed young people who were causing trouble because they had nothing else to do. Then someone comes along with an idea for them all - clean up local parks! They get paid for it too! That's what CCC did but on a national scale.
