The term "British" refers to anything related to the United Kingdom, particularly England. In AP US History, it often refers to the English settlers and government during the colonial period and Revolutionary War.

Analogy

Think of the British in AP US History as a strict parent who sets up rules (laws) for their child (the American colonies). Eventually, this child grows up (American Revolution) and decides they want independence from their parent's control.
