These are a set of skills that students need to master for the Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH) exam. They include understanding causation, continuity and change over time, comparison, contextualization, historical interpretation and synthesis.
Think of these skills as tools in a toolbox. Just like you need different tools (a hammer, screwdriver, wrench) for different tasks when building or fixing something, you need different historical thinking skills to analyze and understand history effectively.
Causation: Understanding cause-and-effect relationships between events in history.
Continuity and Change Over Time: Analyzing what has stayed the same and what has changed over a certain period in history.
Historical Interpretation: Making sense of historical data by analyzing evidence from multiple sources and drawing conclusions based on that analysis.
