Air quality refers to the condition of the air in terms of its level of pollution. It measures the presence of harmful substances such as pollutants, chemicals, or particles in the atmosphere that can impact human health or ecosystems.
Think of air quality as a swimming pool. Just as you want clean water without contaminants when swimming, good air quality means breathing clean, fresh air without harmful substances present.
Particulate Matter (PM): Tiny solid or liquid particles suspended in the air that can be harmful when inhaled.
Ozone Layer: A layer high up in Earth's atmosphere containing ozone molecules which protects against harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
Smog: A type of air pollution caused by a mixture of smoke and fog, often resulting from industrial emissions or vehicle exhaust.
