Syphilis is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection that can cause long-term complications if not treated correctly. It was first recognized in Europe in the late 15th century.
Think of syphilis as a computer virus. If left unchecked, it can spread throughout your system (body), causing various problems and slowing down performance. Just like you'd use antivirus software to get rid of a computer virus, you'd use antibiotics to treat syphilis.
Epidemic: An outbreak of disease that spreads quickly and affects many individuals at the same time.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Infections that are spread by sexual contact, including diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV/AIDS.
Columbian Exchange: The widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations, technology, diseases, and ideas between the Americas and the Old World in the 15th and 16th centuries.
