This refers to the political movement by colonized people seeking independence from their colonial rulers, often driven by feelings of national identity and cultural unity.

Analogy

Imagine you're at summer camp and your counselor keeps making all the decisions without considering what you want. Eventually, you might rally your fellow campers (your "nation") to demand more say—or even try to run things yourselves. That's similar to nationalism in colonies!
