Gunpowder is an explosive substance that has been used primarily in warfare for centuries. It was invented in China and is made from sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate.
Gunpowder is like the fuel in your car's engine. Without it, the car won't move. Similarly, without gunpowder, a cannon or firearm can't fire.
Cannon: A large, heavy piece of artillery typically mounted on wheels that uses gunpowder to launch projectiles.
Firearm: A portable weapon that fires ammunition due to the force of the gases produced by the rapid combustion of a small amount of gunpowder.
Trebuchet: A type of catapult that works by using the energy of a raised counterweight to throw a projectile; used before invention and widespread use of gunpowder.
