Dadaism is an avant-garde intellectual movement that started during World War I in Zurich. It's characterized by a rejection of the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works.
Imagine if you were playing a game where everyone else is following the rules but you decide not only to break them but also question why they exist at all – that's what Dadaists did within the realm of art!
Surrealism: An artistic movement emphasizing the irrational and subconscious; it grew out of Dadaist ideas.
Avant-garde: The innovative leaders or pioneers introducing new concepts or techniques in various fields (especially arts).
Anti-art: A loosely used term applied to an array of concepts and attitudes that reject prior definitions of art and question art in general. Dadaism is often associated with the anti-art movement.
