The Chagatai Khanate (1225–1680s) was a Mongol and later Turkicized khanate that comprised the lands ruled by Chagatai Khan, second son of Genghis Khan.
Think of the Chagatai Khanate as a spin-off TV show from a popular series. It's part of the same universe but has its own characters and storylines.

Timurid Empire: A Persianate empire founded by Timur (Tamerlane), a Turco-Mongol conqueror in the 14th century.
