Balance of Power

Definition

Balance of Power is a concept in international relations that suggests national security is enhanced when military capability is distributed so that no one state is strong enough to dominate all others.

Analogy

Balance of power can be compared to a seesaw. If one side becomes too heavy, the seesaw tips over. Similarly, if one country becomes too powerful, it could tip the balance and cause instability or conflict.
