The Anglo-Mughal Wars were a series of wars fought between the British East India Company and Mughal Empire over supremacy in India.
Think of this as a wrestling match where a new challenger (the British East India Company) tries to take down the reigning champion (the Mughal Empire) to gain control over their territory (India).
Battle of Plassey (1757): A decisive victory by the British East India Company over the Nawab of Bengal and his French allies that marked a significant early step towards establishment of British dominance in Bengal.
Mughal Empire: An empire that ruled most of present-day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh from 1526 to 1857.
British Raj: Refers to the period when Britain ruled over Indian subcontinent from 1858 until independence in 1947.
