Two Sample T Test

Definition

A two sample t-test is used to compare means from two independent groups or samples. It helps determine if there is enough evidence to conclude that there is a significant difference between their means.

Analogy

Imagine you want to compare the average height of male students and female students at your school. You randomly select samples from each group and calculate their mean heights. By performing a two sample t-test, you can determine if there is sufficient evidence to suggest that there is indeed a significant difference in average height between male and female students.

Related terms

Independent Samples: Independent samples refer to groups or samples that are not related or dependent on each other.

Null Hypothesis: The null hypothesis states that there is no significant difference between the means of the two groups being compared.

P-value: The p-value is a measure of the strength of evidence against the null hypothesis. It helps determine if the observed difference between sample means is statistically significant.
