Simple Random Sample

Definition

A simple random sample is a subset of individuals from a larger population, where each individual has an equal chance of being selected. It ensures that every member of the population has an equal opportunity to be included in the sample.

Analogy

Imagine you have a bag filled with different colored candies. To get a simple random sample, you close your eyes and randomly pick out a few candies without looking. This way, every candy in the bag has an equal chance of being chosen.
