Sampling Bias

Definition

Sampling bias occurs when the sample selected for a study is not representative of the population, leading to inaccurate or misleading results.

Analogy

Imagine you're at a pizza party and the host only asks the people who love pineapple on their pizza for their opinion. The resulting data would be biased because it doesn't represent everyone's preferences.

Selection Bias: This occurs when certain groups are systematically excluded from the sample, skewing the results.

Volunteer Bias: Volunteer bias happens when individuals self-select to participate in a study, potentially introducing biases into the data.
