Definition

The random condition refers to the requirement that subjects or samples in a study must be randomly selected in order to ensure unbiased results.

Analogy

Think of selecting people for a survey by drawing names out of a hat. This ensures that everyone has an equal chance of being chosen and avoids any bias in the selection process.

Simple Random Sample: A sample where every member of the population has an equal chance of being selected.

Stratified Random Sample: Dividing the population into subgroups (strata) and then randomly selecting samples from each subgroup.

Cluster Sampling: Dividing the population into clusters and randomly selecting entire clusters as samples.
