Definition
Proportions refer to the relative amount or share of a particular characteristic within a population or sample.
Analogy
Imagine you have a bag of 100 candies, and you want to know the proportion of red candies in the bag. You randomly select 10 candies and find that 3 are red. The proportion of red candies in the bag is like finding out what percentage of the total number of candies are red.
