Definition

The mean is the average of a set of numbers. It is found by adding up all the values and dividing by the total number of values.

Analogy

Think of the mean as the "middle" value that represents the entire group. Just like how a class representative can give you an idea of what the whole class is like, the mean gives you a sense of what the data set looks like overall.
