Free Response

Definition

A type of question in which students are required to provide a written response, rather than selecting from multiple choice options.

Analogy

Think of free response questions as writing an essay instead of filling in the blanks on a worksheet. Just like an essay allows you to express your thoughts and ideas fully, a free response question gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding in your own words.
