Density Curves

Definition

Density curves represent the overall pattern of a distribution. They are smooth, continuous curves that describe the relative likelihood of different values occurring in a dataset.

Analogy

Think of density curves as a roller coaster track. Just like how a roller coaster track outlines the path that the ride will take, a density curve outlines the path that the data points are likely to follow.

Related terms

Skewness: Skewness refers to the asymmetry of a distribution. It indicates whether one tail is longer or heavier than the other.

Central Limit Theorem: The Central Limit Theorem states that when independent random variables are added together, their sum tends toward a normal distribution.

Percentiles: Percentiles divide data into 100 equal parts. They help us understand where individual observations fall within a dataset.
