Feudalism was a social system during medieval times where land was owned by lords who granted it to vassals in exchange for military service and other obligations. It was characterized by a hierarchical structure and the exchange of land for loyalty.
Imagine feudalism as a game of chess, where each piece represents a different social class. Just like how each chess piece has its own role and moves, in feudalism, each social class had specific duties and responsibilities.
Serf: A peasant who was bound to the land they worked on and owed labor or services to their lord.
Lord: A nobleman who owned land and granted it to vassals in exchange for loyalty and service.
Vassal: A person who held land from a lord in return for allegiance and military service.
