Whitewashing is a term used to describe the practice of altering or erasing aspects of history, literature, or media in order to present a more favorable image for white people while disregarding or marginalizing other racial or ethnic groups.
Imagine you're painting a picture using only white paint. Whitewashing is like covering up all the other colors on your palette and only using white. It ignores diversity and creates an incomplete representation.
Stereotyping: Stereotyping involves making assumptions about individuals based on preconceived notions about their race, ethnicity, or background.
Colorism: Colorism refers to discrimination within a particular racial group based on skin color. Lighter-skinned individuals may be favored over those with darker skin tones.
Representation: Representation refers to how different groups are portrayed in media, literature, art, etc., and whether they are accurately depicted and given equal visibility.
